Former Ruffin High School students present college scholarship

The Alumnus of Ruffin High School (RHS) realizes the value of an education and is especially interested in a better education for students in the 21st century. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students to pursue post-secondary educational goals. It is with great pleasure that we announce the recipient of the 2013 Mrs. Odessa Stephens $500.00 Memorial Educational Scholarship, Ms. Kayla Johnson. Kayla is a 2013 Colleton County High School graduate and the daughter of Ms. LueNell Rivers and RHS 1973 graduate Mr. Richie Johnson.

We would also like to thank all the sponsors that made this year’s scholarship award possible; they are: Bevelyn W. Mitchell; Faye Jones Bennett; Sirena L. Memminger; Anthony O. Williams; L. Virginia Manigo; Kathleen M. Parker; Estell V. Stephens-Brunson; Genevieve Miles-Newkirk; Edna R. Wilks; Sallie B. Stephens; and Mona Lisa S. Hodges.

The award ceremony was held at the Colleton County Memorial Library, 600 Hampton Street, Walterboro, SC, on Saturday, June 15, at 2 p.m.

RHS alumni are always Forever True, to the Red, White, Blue and Gold. The RHS 2012 Homecoming Reunion Committee/Scholarship Committee consisted of: Jamie Goff Stephens; Pastor Mary S. Howard; Sonya R. Stephens; Charles Murdaugh; Linda C. Williams; Benjamin Steward; Bevelyn W. Mitchell; Tamiko Aiken; Mildred P. Steward; Sirena L. Memminger; and Jannette S. Stokes.
