#2016 Goals

Truly, it seems like just yesterday that I sat down on New Year’s Eve and made a list of goals I wanted to accomplish in the year ahead. If only I could find that list, or even remember what was included, I could ascertain the progress I’ve made.

Rewind. Okay, let me be honest. Most of the things on that list are the same things that are on my list every New Year’s Eve. So, although I have no clue where that list is, I can assure you (and me!) that I did not achieve all my goals. But, I did make progress and accomplished more than I imagined I could.

Isn’t that what it’s all about? Making progress toward achieving our goals?

As I sat on my kitchen floor on Christmas Eve (while baking a pound cake that ended up resembling OW’s football field) compiling the 2015 Top Stories in Sports list, I came to the conclusion that, although there were no state championship victories, it was a good year for sports in this community.

It was a year in which records were set, dreams were accomplished and hard work paid off for some deserving athletes. There were playoff runs, state title chases and numerous individual accolades at region and state levels. There were more college signings than in previous years and many of our former student-athletes are having success collegiately, which, in turn, helps promote and fuel the future of our athletic programs. Even more importantly, incredibly bright futures are ahead for many of our scholar-athletes outside of the playing field.

The job, however, is not done. We must continue to strive to reach the goals we have set; whether they be personal, professional or athletic.

So, as we welcome 2016, let’s say goodbye to the things holding us back from making progress.
