Cottageville Christmas Parade

The Cottageville Christmas Parade drew a small crowd in Saturday’s brisk weather, with the parade participants receiving cheers from the sidelines.

The parade was sponsored by the town’s Revitalization Committee, a group comprised of town residents and select members of the Cottageville Town Council. The revitalization committee sponsors the town’s Christmas Parade each year. The group also sponsors several other activities throughout the year.

The parade consisted of five decorated entries, which includes students dressed as Christmas packages and others dressed as the Grinch and as characters from the Disney movie, “Frozen.”

There were also participants from Colleton County law enforcement and fire-rescue, as well as members of the town’s police department. “We had Santa and Ms. Claus, also,” said Yvonne Alvarado, parade organizer and Revitalization Committee member. Alvarado is an immediate past member of Cottageville Town Council. “The parade was short, but sweet and everyone enjoyed it,” she said. “I think those who came out really enjoyed it.”

According to Alvarado, parade winners are as follows: First Place was given to Karl Knowles; Second Place went to the Big Foot Float; and Third Place went to Craig Crosby’s Crew from Halloween.
Another award given in the parade went to a Girl Scout Troop from Colleton County (the Girl Scout Troop Number was not provided).

“The weather was cold and nasty, and we had a rain date scheduled, but the rain stopped just in time for us to proceed as planned,” said Alvarado. “Next year will be a lot better.”
