The Colletonian Student Athlete of the Week…Zac Beach

Zachary James Roger Beach is a junior at Colleton County High School. He is the son of James and Lisa Beach of Walterboro and the grandson of Christy and Roger Beach and Vicky and Darrell Cooper. Zac is a Golden Paw and an Academic Letter recipient and was selected as School of Health and Human Services Student of the Month for the month of October. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Student Council, and American Math Competition. Zac lettered in soccer in 9th and 10th grade and earned the Offensive MVP for the JV team in 8th grade.

GPA and class rank: I have a 4.636 GPA and I’m ranked 8th in my class.

What are your top considerations for college? My top college considerations are Georgia Tech, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Clemson, USC Columbia, and Texas A&M.

Will you be pursuing a sport in college? I will try to get into a student-coaching program for football and play intermural soccer.

Have you decided on a major? I haven’t determined what I will major in yet, but I am looking into international business or electrical engineering. I would like to become an international marketer or an engineering manager.

What sports do you play? I play varsity football and soccer.

What quote inspires you? “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” –Vince Lombardi.

Who is your real-life hero? My grandfather, Roger Beach. He has set an example for me of never giving up and working hard to accomplish what you want in life.

Most played song on your playlist? “Do I Wanna Know?” –Arctic Monkeys

What makes a good Valentine’s gift? Chocolate, you can never go wrong with chocolate.

What sports legend would you like to spend the day with and why? Richard Sherman, LCB for the Seattle Seahawks, because when he was in school he was the epitome of a student athlete. He achieved excellence in the classroom, as well as on the field. I would love to gain tips from him as to how he became such a successful person, and learn what I could do to achieve more in my life.

Favorite game day meal? A turkey sub always gets me ready to go before a game!

How important is integrity in sports? Integrity is everything in sports, without integrity your team will accomplish nothing.

Favorite book? “American Sniper” by Chris Kyle. His bravery and sacrifice for his country is very inspirational to me.
