Colleton Commercial Kitchen Grand Opening Gala is set for May 9

Members of both Walterboro City Council and Colleton County Council recently toured the county’s new commercial kitchen, making the tour a first-time that both political bodies have toured the area together. The kitchen is a first of its kind for Colleton, giving farmers and aspiring business owners a place to turn their goods into a retail product. Photos by Heather Walters

The Grand Opening Gala of the Colleton Commercial Kitchen will take place at 6 pm on Saturday, May 9, at 506 E. Washington St. in Walterboro, SC.  The facility is located on the campus of the Colleton Museum & Farmers Market.  The Gala will celebrate the Colleton Commercial Kitchen as a cooperative Colleton County project undertaken with support from Palmetto Rural Telephone via a USDA Rural Development Loan.

The evening will highlight lowcountry food and drink and will feature a preview of an art exhibit from the collection of Walterboro dentist, Dr. Harold Rhodes entitled:  All Night, All Day – African-American Farm, Food, and Family.    Live music for the event will feature the Muddy Kings, a young blues group and Carlyle Griffin, a young guitarist and singer/songwriter.

Tours of the new kitchen facility will be available along with access to the Colleton Museum.  Tickets are $20 each before the event and $25 each at the door and are available at the Colleton Museum or by calling 843-549-2303 during business hours.
