Civitans to honor local clergy and veterans

The Walterboro Civitan Club is honoring local clergy for their annual Clergy Appreciation Week. Each February, Civitan Clubs around the world recognize clergy of all faiths for their service to their communities. The Walterboro Club will honor local clergy and veterans at a special luncheon on February 9, at 12:30 at the Veteran’s Victory House on 2461 Sidneys Rd. in Walterboro.

Clergy Appreciation Week is held to recognize the heroism of four U.S. Army chaplains during World War II who were aboard the U.S. troopship Dorchester on February 3, 1943. When the ship was torpedoed in the North Atlantic, these men of different faiths worked together to evacuate the soldiers, ultimately giving their lives by offering up their own life jackets.

Each February, civitans honor them by recognizing the service of clergy everywhere and this year we are able to combine honoring the clergy as well as all Veterans in a joint session at the Veteran’s Victory House. All local clergy is invited to attend.
