The Colleton County Jr. Lady Cougar Softball team played their first game of the season last Monday against Carver-Edisto, since participating in their opening tournament at Ace Basin Sports. The Jr. Lady Cougars lost 19-12, but showed major improvement since their first outing.

Dezyrea Woodbury started in the circle for CCMS, with D’mani Gregory completing the seventh inning. According to Coach Janice Wright, both young pitchers are making progress and working on their pitches. Behind the plate for the Jr. Lady Cougars is Ashley Savage, who rendered an in-the-park homerun against Carver-Edisto. “The team, as a whole, played great,” said Coach Wright.

On Thursday, CCMS faced North District, the winners of the “Go Yard” Tournament, losing 17-0 in three innings.

The Jr. Lady Cougars will face Branchville (away) on Monday, Whale Branch (home) on Tuesday, and travel to North District on Friday. They will be participating in the Colleton Prep Lady War Hawk Invitational this weekend at Ace Basin Sports Complex.
