CCHS “Varsity” Winter Guard qualifies for Division Scholastic A in CWEA event

The Colleton County High School Band of Blue “Varsity” Winter Guard scored a 55.650 and placed 2nd, competing against 15 guards, in the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association Premiere. This accomplishment qualifies them to compete in Division Scholastic A. Last year the Band of Blue “Varsity” won the 2014 Scholastic CWEA Championship in class AA. The CCHS Varsity performed their routine “Forever” to the song “1000 Years” by Christi Perri.

The Colleton Middle School “Cadets” also competed on Saturday at West Ashley High School, and scored a 54.860 and placed 2nd in their division. The CCMS Cadets performed their routine to the song “Up Side Down” by Jack Johnson. The Band of Blue Varsity and the CCMS Cadets are under the direction of Stacey Miller with assistance from William Thomas and Band of Blue Alumni Keivy Lingard.

The Band of Blue Winter Percussion, performing “Get a Clue?” based on the music of In the Hall of the Mountain King, scored a 68.70 and placed 3rd. The Winter Percussion is under the direction of Band of Blue Assistant Director Gary Stoupe who won the CWEA Cadet Percussion title while at James Island Middle School. He is restarting the Band of Blue competitive indoor percussion line, which won the SCBDA State title in 2006.

The Winter Percussion, Varsity and Cadets will next compete at Colleton County High School on February 28th, in what will be the first time Colleton County will host a Carolina Winter Ensemble Association Show. So far, there are 36 groups registered to perform. Tickets are available for $10, and the event will be held in the gym at CCHS. More information about this upcoming event can be found on the Colleton County High School Band Facebook Page or at www.bandofblue.org.
