BREAKING: Boys death not linked to bullying, investigation ongoing

Authorities investigating the case of an 11-year-old Colleton County boy who committed suicide on Tuesday morning say that there is no evidence of bullying being the cause.

According to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, rumors that bullying at the boys school caused him to take his life have not been confirmed. The boy used a .22-caliber gun in the incident, according to reports.

The child’s name has not yet been officially released by the Colleton County Coroners Office: an autopsy from that agency and an official cause of death are also pending.

“We are currently working with the school district to investigate claims of bullying, but we have no evidence or proof of that at this time,” said Lt. Shane Roberts, spokesman for the sheriff’s office.

“This is an active investigation,” he said.

The Colletonian will report more information on this story as facts become available.
