Berry buys EMB

Heather Berry Larson has bought downtown Walterboro’s East Main Boutique store and is currently revamping it. She plans to host a family-oriented grand reopening soon. Photo submitted.

One of downtown Walterboro’s main staple stores is now under new ownership.
Heather Berry Larson bought East Main Boutique one week ago from its former owner, Ashley Thomas, who had owned it since its inception three years ago. When the store went up for sale last week, Larson said it took less than 24 hours for her to decide to buy the store. In less than a week, she then had the keys to the store in her hand. “I have always been interested in fashion and I wanted to bring my 2-year-old daughter to work with me. She is going to love it,” she said, with a laugh.
The mother of two and new grandmother said she sees this new business venture as a way for her to give back to her community. “I have been in the environmental business for 25 years but this is my first business venture,” she said.
Larson is currently remodeling the existing storefront for her customers. She is hoping to reopen the store by mid-August. “We did a complete facelift on the inside already, and I’m headed to the shows this weekend for buys,” she said.
Larson said she plans to expand the current retail line to include more women’s styles and to increase her “beautiful curves” collection. She is also planning to soon introduce a children’s line of clothing. A men’s clothing line is not included in the reintroduction of the boutique to the shoppers.
“A men’s line is definitely a possibility, but we are still undecided on that line of clothing,” she said. “We are definitely going to have shoes, jewelry, purses, hats, scarves, sunglasses, all the accessories,” said Larson. “Anything you need for a complete outfit from head to toe.”
A grand re-opening is planned, she said, but no timeframe for that has yet been announced.
