Autopsy pending on Wal-Mart car death

Colleton County officials are still awaiting the results of a pending forensic autopsy to determine how a local woman died. That woman – 37-year-old Camile Bishop-Contreras, of Walterboro – was found unresponsive inside her parked car on Feb. 3rd in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Walterboro.

According to Walterboro Police Chief Wade Marvin, the department received the 911 phone call at about 7:59 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 3rd. Though many witnesses reported seeing the woman, who they believed to be sleeping, she was officially discovered Tuesday morning by family members who were searching for her, said Marvin.

The woman was found inside the car. Based on surveillance footage from the Wal-Mart store, detectives say the woman and her car had been parked in the same location since about 7 p.m. on Saturday night. “It’s a very sad situation,” he added.

The Colleton County Coroner’s Office has not yet released an official cause of death, with the forensic autopsy still pending. However, local law enforcement officers do not suspect any foul play, said Marvin. “The investigation is still open at this time,” he said.

The Colletonian will keep you posted on any updates involving this story.
