Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Annual Finer Womanhood Senior Breakfast

On Saturday March 2, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Kappa Chi Zeta Chapter of Walterboro hosted its Annual Finer Womanhood Senior Breakfast at New Life United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Members of the sorority cooked, prepared and served breakfast to seniors in attendance in appreciation for their contribution to the community. The breakfast was dedicated to honoring the efforts seniors who have empowered and strengthen our families and shape the future of our children.
Christine Golden, Sorority Chapter President brought greetings and introduced sorority members and guests. “On this day we take great pleasure in honoring our seniors for everything you’ve done to strengthen our families and the wisdom you’ve shared to make us better in everything we aspire to do,” said Golden. Edith Lynah gave a short prayer of thanksgiving for those in attendance and the blessing of breakfast. France Whittington read an uplifting bible scripture of encouragement for grace and thankfulness. Minthalee Stephens shared the history of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. “One of Zeta’s founding principle is Service in the community, Zeta is more than an organization it is a movement and a belief system that reflect at its core the desire to provide true service to our communities,” said Stephens.
Genora Kennedy shared the purpose of the Finer Womanhood event. “Finer Womanhood celebration is a Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. hallmark celebrated the last week of February through the entire month of March around the globe to emphasize the standards, morals, customs and attributes of fine women in the community and the sorority,” said Kennedy. “Through service and particularly Zeta’s Elder Care Initiative we strive to provide education and awareness for seniors with comprehensive programs that focuses on senior care, elder abuse awareness, financial peace, supporting the caregiver and volunteering at senior centers and care facilities.” said Kennedy. In the spirit of keeping the mood light, Lesley Jamison read a fun poem adding a little humor about the aging process as our body grows older how things don’t work the way they used to.
The sorority did more than just serve breakfast, they planned fun activities throughout the morning where the group played bingo, had raffles and won door prizes. Toward the end of the morning Cokeitha Gaddist explained the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and lead the group in several morning stretches they can do at home to help maintain muscle movement and flexibility. Afterwards the sorority presented each senior with a small gift as a token of their appreciation for attending the Finer Womanhood Annual Senior Breakfast.
The sorority expressed special thanks to New Life United Method Church, Rev. Prince Polite and First Lady Sammie Polite, Isabell Jones; Green Pond Senior Center Site Manager, Sophia T. Henderson; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. South Carolina Lowcountry Area II Coordinator, members of Pi Theta Zeta Smoaks Chapter and Phi Beta Sigma Brother Dwayne T. Buckner, Esq.
