Wrestling clinic a huge success

The Walterboro Takedown Club hosted its 3rd Annual Wrestling clinic July 13th and 14th in the CCHS Gymnasium.  The Clinic was another huge success for the fast growing program with a total of 22 young boys and girls in attendance.

These athletes came from all over the county, some stretching as far as St. George to participate in two action-packed and fun filled days of wrestling oriented instruction.  The youth ranged in age from 4-14 and came in all shapes and sizes. There were many new faces as well as returning athletes that dove into the challenges that Coach’s Richard Massey and Packy Burke had in store for them.  Even one female wrestler, Kayla Dantzler, who turned a lot of heads with her tenacity and aggressive attitude, had fun pinning down fellow wrestlers in attendance.

The clinic started off by showing the basic skills of wrestling as far as rules and traditional stances then moved quickly on to more advanced moves as the clinic progressed.   The coaches were very impressed and pleased with the help of former and current varsity wrestlers and local volunteers who aided in demonstration as they kept things going smoothly throughout the two day event.  There were several wrestling oriented games that were played but none more popular than the always favorites “steal the bacon,” and “king of the ring.”

The Wrestlers in attendance were:   Davon Avant, Javon Avant, Mason Ayers, Bradlie Carson, Austin Carter, Cohen Crosby, Jonathan Dantzler, Kayla Dantzler, Zachary Davis, Peyton Grant, Logan Hall, Cooper Hefner, Parker Hefner, Braeden Hiers, Hunter Judy, Lucas Kittrell, Kaden Miranda, Jordan Simmons, Gage Thomas, Riddick Thomas, Justin Williams, and Benjamin Young
