War Hawks wrestling defeat Burke High

Nathaniel Blubaugh securing a 2 point takedown on his way to victory against Burke High School.

The Colleton Prep War Hawk Wrestling Team, led by Coach Packy Burke, earned their first victory of the season by defeating SCHSL Burke High School 36-18. The War Hawks nearly conducted a sweep of the tri-match but lost to Military Magnet 24-24 on criteria.
Leading the way for the War Hawks were Nathaniel Blubaugh (126lbs.) and Ryan McMillen (152 lbs.). Blubaugh, one of three brothers on the team, won the most exciting match of the night by defeating Burke’s Corey Priouleau. In a previous matchup on December 18, Priouleau pinned Blubaugh in the first period in a 1:30. This time Blubaugh prevailed victorious in a hard-fought battle to the end to seal the victory for the War Hawks. McMillen, a junior, was a perfect 2-0 with two first period pins. War Hawk McMillen went up a weight class to wrestle Jumari Harris from Burke High School and won with a pin in 1:15. Against Military Magnet, McMillen pinned Jay Stevenson at 1:45. “Ryan has enjoyed wrestling this year and he is learning more every match. He has a passion for helping others improve, a quality that has earned him the title of team Captain,” said Coach Burke.
The War Hawks will travel to Bluffton on Thursday for a Tri-match with Bluffton and hometown rivals, Colleton County High School. Coach Burke will face one of his former wrestlers/Assistant Coach, Jaques Glover who is now the Head Wrestling Coach for the Colleton County Cougars.
