Wando passing game too much for Cougars

The Colleton County High School Varsity Football team traveled to Mount Pleasant to face The Wando Warriors this past Friday night, but the unbeaten Wando team proved too much for our Cougars.

The Wando fans packed into the school’s stadium to see their team battle to keep their winning streak going. The Warriors came out in a spread offense and almost immediately went to the air. The players had three things in their favor, a stout line to block and give the quarterback time, big tall receivers, and a packed house.

The Warriors jumped right on the Cougars, taking an early lead and holding on for the entire game, and Wando Won by a score of 37 to 6.

Although the Cougars lost the game, the Cougar fans attending the game had to be more than just a little impressed with the team’s performance. As one looks over the Cougar offensive line, so many new faces can be seen, and the same thing goes when looking at the rest of the team. There are just so many young players. But, during this game, the offense, for the first time this season, was able to move the ball with not so many three downs and outs, as seen in previous games. On our defense, adjustments were made to slow down the extremely powerful Wando offense. The Cougar defense even began to put tremendous pressure on the Wando quarterback, which gave the Cougar offense more opportunities for making plays. With the new offensive schemes, the Cougars seem to have something good to build on going forward.

The Cougars will be home this Friday night against West Ashley high school. The Cougars are having Homecoming this week, so our fans should come out and support the Cougars as they continue to look for their first victory of the season and their first victory in their new Cougar stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
