Walterboro Running Club’s Pub Run Fun

The Walterboro Running Club celebrated their one-year Pub Run on Wednesday, October 4th. Walterboro residents Holly Mardell and Amanda Herndon formed the club in September 2016 and hosted their first Pub Run in October of 2016. In its one year of existence, the WRC has had more than 300 participants, with those people running more than 40 miles as a group.

The WRC began when Holly and Amanda, along with some other runners, attended a few Summerville Pub Runs. “Hey, we can totally do this in Walterboro,” Amanda said, recalling how they decided to localize the event. To date, one of the WRC’s largest Pub Runs has drawn more than 70 participants. The average crowd is usually about 40 people.

“Everyone is welcome, runners, walkers and in-betweeners,” said Holly. “Several families come out together. You’ll find at least a couple of strollers each month.”

The WRC would like to thank Derek Rush and Main Street Grille for hosting their monthly events and for “always welcoming the participants into his establishment,” said Holly.
“We also want to thank the local businesses for their donations,” she said. These businesses include the American Insurance Center; YESS Property; Hetrick, Harvin and Bonds; the Veterans Victory House; The Press and Standard; Cathy’s Creation/Naughty Cakes; Thirty-One; and Friends of the WRC.
