Vehicle pursuit/ recovery of four stolen vehicles from a car dealership

On May 15th, 2018 at 8:02 AM while conducting traffic enforcement on the Ace Basin Parkway in Colleton County, a Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a white Dodge Durango with paper tags, a vehicle pursuit ensued after the vehicle failed to stop upon initiating emergency lights and siren.  The vehicle being pursued lead deputies up the Ace Basin Pkwy through Jacksonboro into Charleston County. The pursuit continued until the suspect vehicle crashed in a ditch on Highway 162 in Hollywood, SC. The occupants (suspects) in the stolen vehicle then fled into a wooded area at the crash site.  A search for the suspects was initiated with the assistance from Charleston County Sheriff’s Office helicopter, CCSO deputies, and CCSO K-9 units. One suspect was apprehended and he was transported to a medical facility for medical clearance before being taken to the Colleton County Detention Center. 

After further investigation it was found that five vehicles were stolen from a dealership in Beaufort (Butler Chrysler Dodge Jeep Dealership). The vehicle involved in the pursuit was one of the vehicles stolen and three other vehicles were found on Roach Road in Hollywood. 

Four of the five vehicles stolen from the dealership in Beaufort County were located and returned, the investigation continues in the search of the other suspects involved and the fifth vehicle. The fifth vehicle is a 2017 Dodge Durango, white in color. This vehicle was entered into NCIC as stolen. 

“I am very pleased with the proactive actions of the deputies involved in this incident; this is a good example of proactive policing and looking beyond the stop. By looking beyond the stop it resulted in the retrieval of four stolen vehicles from a car dealership. I would like to thank Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon and his deputies for assisting us in the apprehension and the retrieval of these stolen vehicles”, said Sheriff R. A. Strickland.
