The War Hawks beat the Dolphins 20 to 7

he Colleton Prep War Hawks came home with a win Friday night against Hilton Head Prep Dolphins. The War Hawks went into the game with 16 players versus 30 plus on the other sideline. The coaching staff handled the condition really well. They decided to try and wear them down. War Hawks Head Varsity Football Coach Greg Langdale said, “We were able to execute this game plan to success. I could not be more proud of our conditioning, we had 16 players, a five o’clock kickoff and did not have a single player come out of the game with a cramp. Warren and Noah Catterton did not play like freshman tonight. They did a great job opening up running lanes for Drew Murdaugh and the other backs tonight. Jordan Crosby did a good job of running our offense tonight and making several big third down runs.”
The Dolphins were able to put their only scoring drive of the game together on their second drive and completed a 25 yard pass for a touchdown and the extra point taking the lead 7 to 0. The War Hawks put together a twelve play drive that ended with Murdaugh scoring a two yard touchdown run. War Hawk kicker, John Tomedolsky, was unable to kick this week due to a hip injury, so it forced the War Hawks to go for a two point conversion which was stopped by the Dolphin defense. The teams went into halftime with the War Hawks trailing the Dolphins 6 to 7.
The War Hawks and the Dolphins traded punts to start the third quarter. The War Hawks ended their second 10 plus play drive with a two yard touchdown run from Crosby. Crosby also added the two point conversion to give the War Hawks a 14 to 7 lead. War Hawk defense continued to hold their own throughout the fourth quarter. With under five minutes left in the game, War Hawk Will Dandridge came up with a big fumble recovery that put the ball around midfield. Hunter Hudson was able to score the final touchdown for the War Hawks with a two yard touchdown run. The War Hawks ended the game with a 20 to 7 victory over the Dolphins.
Offense: Murdaugh had 26 carries for 129 yards with one touchdown, Crosby had 17 carries for 85 yards with one touchdown and Hudson had six carries for 26 yards and one touchdown. Defense: Crosby had one interception, Jacob Breland with six tackles two for loss, Davis McMillen with six tackles and Dandridge five tackles and one fumble recovery.
Coach Langdale added, “I thought our defensive coaches put together a good scheme and the players did excellent job of executing it. Linebacker Breland did a great job in the middle against the run all night. Crosby, Murdaugh and Hudson did a good job of running hard and moving the chains. Dandridge, McMillen and Nick Harvey did a good job of leadership along the offensive line. I could not be more proud of our two freshman offensive lineman tonight. Gus Warren and Noah Catterton did not play like freshman tonight. The di a great job of opening up running lanes for Murdaugh and other backs. Crosby did a good job of running our offense tonight and making several big third down runs. A big tip of the hat goes to our coaches that handle our conditioning.”
The War Hawks are scheduled to travel to Ridgeland Friday night to face Thomas Heyward Rebels at 7:30pm, if weather is permitting.
