St. Peter’s AME Church 2nd Annual Oyster Roast

The comfortable change in weather brought everyone out to enjoy these nice days before the fidget cold weather set in. St. Peter’s AME Church took advantage of the beautiful weather over the weekend. On Saturday, October 12th the church hosted its 2nd Annual Oyster Roast. The Oyster Roast was held at The Coastal Shrine Club on Charleston Highway from 12 pm- 4 pm. This year’s Oyster Roast involved Fun and Fellowship for members of the church, friends, family and the entire community. “It was a beautiful day for the community to gather together, people were shucking oysters while others enjoyed eating, playing games and listening to music,” said April Singleton, Chairperson for the event.
The church welcomed everyone as they came out to enjoy a beautiful day of fun and fellowship. The Oyster Roast site was located several miles from the church at the Coastal Shrine Club, and the church bus was available to provide transportation from the church to the Oyster Roast. “Starting at 11:00 am Nate Knox drove the church bus on the hour to take people back and forth between the church and the site. We wanted to help make transportation convenient and easy for everyone who wanted to come out and enjoy themselves,” said Singleton.
Close to 200 people came out throughout the day to support the church fundraiser. Funds raised from the Oyster Roast goes to support the church Outreach Ministries. Upcoming programs that will benefit from funds raised include this Fall is the Warming Shelter and The Snowflake program. The Warming Shelter will open from 7:00 pm-8:00 am on nights when temperatures fall below 32 degrees to provide safe, emergency shelter during frigid nights for those seeking temporary shelter from the cold. The Snowflake program is a partnership with Colleton County DSS to help families and provide children in the community with personal care items and gifts to help brighten their hearts and smiles at Christmas and during the Holiday. The chairperson of the Snowflake program is Ephraim Green Sr.
Rev. Leon. R. Maxwell, St. Peter’s AME Pastor expressed his sincere thanks to everyone who came out to the Oyster Roast to help support the work they do in the community through the Outreach Ministries.
