St. Patrick’s Day celebration Saturday at Bennetts Point

paddy 6Things are turning green down at Bennetts Point in preparation for Saturday’s St. Paddy’s Day Celebration and Volunteer Fire Department and Community Awareness Program Fundraiser.

A feeling of excitement is building with each passing day. Food is being ordered, parade floats prepared, and meetings of the locals are being held in preparation for the big day.

This year’s event will be better than ever. The food, prepared by such local great cooks as Les and Jeri McGraw, Brian Sneed, Richard Baldwin, Boyce Garrett, Conrad Smith, and Billy Youmans and their crews, promises to be as famous as always.

Joe Taylor has his “Joe Taylor Group All-Stars” at the Salt Creek Recording Studio rocking in preparation for this year’s event. Besides Taylor, the group includes Steve Holley, Glenn Williams, and other special guests. T-shirts have been printed, and children’s activities have been planned. The silent auction will have local crafts and more.

Community members are baking all kinds of goodies for the bake sale. The parade could use a few more floats, so throw one together and come on down. The parade starts at noon at Bennetts Point Landing, and registration begins at 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for best float, best four-wheeler vehicle (ATVs, golf carts, etc), and best pedestrians or cycles. A $10 registration fee is requested.

Dinner will be served at 12:30 p.m., and will include drunken chicken, barbecue, catfish stew, beans, coleslaw, bread, pickles, and tea. Donations for the dinner and entertainment to benefit the fire department will be appreciated.

The only thing missing is YOU. Come enjoy this beautiful part of the Ace Basin and Colleton County. For more information, contact Susanne Hill at (843) 844-7440.
