Singing valentines were a hit

This past Valentine’s Day the Colleton County Arts Council (CCAC) and the Colleton County High School (CCHS) Chorus teamed together to offer singing valentine’s as a joint fundraiser in the community. Erik Lindstrom, President of the CCAC and member of the Beaufort Harbormasters, spent some time with the CCHS Chorus teaching them a few things about singing a four part harmony, much like a barbershop quartet. Two groups of students set out on the big day to bring happiness and joy to those who were the lucky recipients of the special valentines.

For a small fee of only $ 50, folks received two songs, a box of chocolates and a long stem red rose. “This was the first time we have tried a fundraiser like this and for the first year it went very well,” said Kim Bridge, Executive Director of the CCAC. Bridge reports that everyone who was on the receiving end of this special treat were deeply touched and that bystanders also really enjoyed watching and listening to the students sing. “We are really looking forward to this fundraiser again next year and are also hoping to be able to add the Colleton Prep Chorus to the mix,” said Bridge on the future of this fundraiser. Bridge also added her appreciation for the Petal Palace and the Golden Daffodil for their donations for this event.

Northside Elementary Music teacher Jenny Bunton was one of the many that received a singing valentine. Bunton videoed the performance and later posted it on her facebook page with the following: “ The best valentines present ever! Not only because my sweet hubby surprised me but at the same time he supported two organizations so dear to me, Stephanie Stackley Drawdy’s awesome choral program at CCHS, and the Colleton county Arts council! Love you Jamie, these awesome kids made my day!”

The Colleton County Arts Council will use the money raised to help support their own going community programs. The Colleton County High School Chorus will use the part they raised to help them with their spring performance of “Beauty and the Beast”.
