School board approves Foster 4-1

Colleton County School District Superintendent Dr. Franklin Foster’s job performance has been approved by a majority vote of the Colleton County School Board, and the board will soon be discussing whether or not to extend Foster’s contract with the district.
The school board voted 4-1 to approve his performance. Two board members were not present at that meeting: the approval vote was cast at their recent meeting, held last Tuesday.
Board member William Bowman was the lone vote against approving Fosters’ performance during the most recent school year.
Now, the board is going to discuss whether or not to use the approval of Foster’s job performance to extend the superintendents’ contract with the school district. That discussion will occur during a closed, executive session slated to occur on Dec. 3rd.
According to school district Spokesman Sean Gruber, each of the board members has been reviewing Foster for the last several weeks. The board members’ individual reviews of Foster is part of a seven-question checklist that each board member must conclude on Foster. This is the same process done last year for his review.
Those questions are focused on his effectiveness in promoting the vision, instructional leadership, and culture of the district.
If the board should approve of extending his contract with the local district, it is unclear how many years the contract will include. It is also unclear at this point whether or not Foster will receive additional compensation, said Gruber.
Foster has been superintendent of the district for the last seven years.
