Salt Nut clothing and accessories available locally

Salt Nut, which is a new clothing and accessory line started up by Walterboro resident Brad Johnson, is currently being offered for sale exclusively at Tammy Varn’s Off The Wall, a “unique boutique” at 223 East Washingron Street in Walterboro.   Johnson said he got the idea about starting up the business last February after undergoing surgery in December of 2011. “”I was just sitting around the house and had always wanted to own a business, and I came up with this idea and just went with it,” he noted.

The business offers shirts with different beach-style logos, logoed koozies, hats, car and window decals, and other vehicle logos. On his website, Johnson wrote:

“I just want to share a little about how Salt Nut came about and what it means. I remember when I was a little boy, my dad use to wake me up early in the morning and take me saltwater fishing with him and my Uncle . The smell of fresh salty air, first thing in the morning had me hooked from day one. To this day every time I smell the salty air it takes me back to those trips. I will never forget the time I hooked my first fish. The pure excitement of not knowing what was on the…… other end of my line was an adrenaline rush. Oh man, to my surprise I was in for a fight, after wrestling for about fifteen minutes, I finally got it in the boat. I was shocked to see it was an elusive twenty- eight inch spot tail bass. I was amazed that the ocean had given me such a beautiful gift. At that moment I knew I was in love, just like having my first childhood crush, I was a Salt Nut! There was no way   I could get enough of it. I was addicted to the salty air and the ocean breeze. I knew then living on the coast was something I could never give up. It was a part of my life, and my life was a part of it. The salt had run through my veins and could never be rinsed away. The coastal lifestyle is not a trend; it is something that gets in your soul. If you are like me and you are one of those people that can’t live without the salty air, fresh ocean breeze, seeing the beautiful seagulls flying in the sky, or hearing the waves crashing on the beach then there is no doubt about it…. You’re a Salt Nut! I hope that when anyone sees one of these shirts, koozies or stickers it reminds them of their first encounter with the ocean breeze, that first time out fishing with mom or dad or just the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore! So we invite you to browse through our store and shop with confidence. We invite you to create an account with us if you like, or shop as a guest. Either way, your shopping cart will be active until you leave the store.”

Johnson said he is grateful to Birdie and Sharons, Time Out Food and Spirits, and the Elk’s Lodge for their support. He recently held a Salt Nut Takeover Party, a promotional event, at Birdies at which patrons had options to buy merchandise. A DJ also played music, games were played, and prizes were given away. A second Takeover Party will be held at Time Out on the night of Saturday, September 29.
