New school district headquarters officially open

As of Thursday, all departments within the Colleton County School District administration will be officially moved into their new office space.
The school district’s new headquarters are located in the former and vacant Forest Circle Middle School. The school was refurbished and turned into the district’s new administrative site with the approval of the Colleton County School Board. The $7.1-million project is being funded through a $5.5 million bond resolution, passed by the school board in February of 2018. The remaining funds – approximately $1.6 million – are coming from the district’s Capital Project Fund.
With the refurbishment process complete, the public will now go to the district’s new main site for many of its needs, including adult education and student services.
The new all-inclusive administrative building is located at 500 Forest Circle, and will also house two other of the school districts’ educational programs: the Colleton’s Adult Learning Center and the Colleton Academy for Success (the alternative education program). Both of these centers will leave their current locations and will be housed in the new building.
In addition to housing these two programs, the new building will also be the main site for all of the school district’s offices, including the Office of the Superintendent, the Office of Administrative Services, the Office of Federal Program, the Office of Student Services, the Office of Special Services, the Office of Curriculum and Instruction, and the district’s Office of Student Nutrition.
The Colleton County School Board and its conference room will also be in this new space, meaning this is where most of the school board’s public meetings will be held.
According to information provided by Sean Gruber, spokesman for the Colleton County School District, the move into the new headquarters began in mid-January, when the new administrative building recently passed its final inspection. The Office of School Facilities conducted this inspection on Jan. 22nd.
With that approval complete, the district’s leaders then began moving into the new space, starting on Feb. 3rd.
All of the district’s offices should be in place at the new site and open to the public by Feb. 13th, said Gruber.
In addition to the new administrative building, the Colleton County School District does own other property, located at 609 Colleton Loop and 611 Colleton Loop in Walterboro.
The new administrative building has consolidated the need for this space, meaning the space at 609 and 611 Colleton Loop will be empty. According to Gruber, district leaders are currently “exploring options for utilizing” this district office property.
