New Growth for Walterboro in 2018

The start of 2018 is bringing new growth to Walterboro, as multiple new businesses are coming to Walterboro. City leaders say residents can expect to see construction happening soon on several of the pending plans.

The Cook-Out Restaurant is still coming to Walterboro. The fast-food chain eatery first announced plans in mid-2017 to open a new branch in the city; however, construction on the restaurant stalled. City officials say the restaurant’s leaders chose to change their own plans and designs, which prompted the delay in construction. Since this change to their plans, however, Walterboro officials have already approved the new plans, meaning that construction on the restaurant should begin soon.

The second planned new business is Starbucks. Construction on this new coffee and eatery franchise should begin in the first part of 2018, said Walterboro Assistant Manager Hank Amundson.

The third commercial business is KFC, which actually opened last week. The new restaurant is located in front of the Wal-Mart shopping plaza.

The fourth, and final pending and approved project, is a new Coastal Kids dentist office. This new site is going to be built between KFC and Fat Jack’s Restaurant, at the city’s Wal-Mart shopping center near Interstate 95. Clearing for the new building has already begun.

According to Amundson, all four of these new projects are “official,” meaning plans for the construction of the buildings have been approved by city officials.

“For four commercial projects to be happening at one time in a city our size, it’s a positive indicator of our growth and it’s a good investment into our city,” said Amundson.

In addition to these city projects, residents can see construction soon happening on several county-based improvement projects.
