Local Legislator working to combat unemployment

business roundtablesState Representative District 116 Robert L. Brown is pushing for a chance for more jobs within Colleton County.

The Rapid Response and Business Roundtables program is designed to provide early intervention assistance to businesses faced with closures or layoffs. Disassociated workers are supplied with both resources and information in order to look for and find alternate employment.

“I think that this program will help the business community within Walterboro and surrounding Colleton County,” Brown said recently. “Three businesses with ties to Colleton County, the Veneer Plant, H&B Railroad, and New York Wire have shut down fairly recently. I think it would be good to have the people involved with this program come to Colleton County to help avert these closings and layoffs. I have concerns about these two situations involving layoffs, and the key to this problem is to figure out how to get businesses together, where we can have a meeting.”
