Local firefighter graduates from academy

Colleton County Firefighter Hallie Young, assigned to Station # 9 in Cottageville, completed the eight week Recruit School at the SC Fire Academy in Columbia on June 22.

 He graduated with 21 other firefighters from around the state. Each candidate completed an intense training program designed to bring them through Medical First Responder training, HazMat Operations, Flammable Liquids and Gas, Vehicle Extrication, IFSAC Firefighter I and Firefighter II. The candidates live at the Fire Academy during the eight week program, concentrating on the training and skills development.

The graduation ceremony was directed by Fire Academy Resident Training Manager Phillip Russell. SC Fire Marshal Adolf Zubia and Academy Superintendent Shane Ray spoke to the graduates. City of Florence Fire Chief Randy Osterman was the Keynote Speaker.

The families of the Graduates were invited to tour the Academy following the ceremony.
