Large pool of candidates running for city council seat

A large pool of six people are officially vying for the Walterboro City Council seat, which was made vacant by the untimely death of former city Councilman Randy Peters.

Those whose hats are in the running are: Dwayne Buckner, Judy Bridge, Tony Hamilton, Sr., Karen Hinen, Nicole Holmes, and Mack Thomas.

Each candidate has a different platform for their campaign, but all seem to share two common issues that they want to tackle: communication with citizens and crime.

The deadline for Walterboro’s council race ended at noon on Monday. Below is a set of standardized questions presented to each candidate by The Colletonian. Each candidate was also asked to give an open statement concerning their platform for office.

The special election for this council seat will be held Nov. 5. Since this is an at-large seat, all registered voters inside Walterboro city limits can cast their vote.

The winner of that council seat will join fellow council members Robert “Bobby” Bonds; James Broderick; Tom Lohr; Paul Siegel; Jimmy Syfrett and Mayor Bill Young.
