Lady Hawks bounced back after a tough loss

Colleton Prep Lady War Hawks tennis team came home last Monday with a loss against a very experienced and talented Palmetto Christian Academy. PCA easily won all the singles matches. The Lady War Hawks were much more competitive in the doubles matches but with depth and strong skills of the PCA team, they were unable to stay on top of the scorekeeper. CPA Lady War Hawk Head Tennis Coach Lessie Snead said, “Due to the extremely heavy traffic on 526, the three-hour trip back to Walterboro was an opportunity to talk and figure out some things for team improvement.”

Last Thursday, the Lady War Hawks traveled just a few miles across town to face Colleton County Lady Cougars. Snead said, “We played only five singles positions and the number two doubles position under high school league rules.” Lady War Hawk player Makayla Odum was only allowed to play an Exhibition Match (8 Game Pro Set), but was excited to be on the court. Odum and Lady Cougar, Zahara Ellison, played some great points with Odum taking the loss. “As a young player, Odum fully understands it takes work to improve. The more balls you hit, the better you will become. It’s simply about effort, focus and court time,” added Snead. Despite distractions, Rianna Bailey played strong, smart tennis to take the win on court one. Becca Martin and Sidney Bailey played consistently to sew up the wins on courts two and three for the Lady War Hawks. Kaylee Spears and A.Lee, along with Anne Hatcher White and Z. Buckner split sets and battled it out in the match tiebreakers for the victory. After losing the first set, Spears and White were both able to make the necessary adjustments to play more challenging tennis. Snead said, “I can now identify with a “tumbleweed”. The tennis season has been “fast and furious” and is oh so quickly coming to an end.”
