Lady Cougars are Currently 1-5 for Region Games

The Lady Cougars were coming off of a tied week as they both won and lost during last week’s games. On Tuesday, January 16th the Lady Cougars faced Hilton Head High School and scored themselves a victory. The Lady Cougars had a slow start to the game, however they stepped up their intensity and in the last 15 seconds Allen was able to pull off a three pointer that gave the Lady Cougars the lead they needed. The final score of the game was CCHS 35- HHHS 32. On Friday, January 19th the Lady Cougars competed against Berkeley High School at their only home game of the week. The Lady Cougars played their heart out that night and the scoreboard was constantly changing but similar to their first game, the final score came down to last minute. Berkeley was able to score three times before the final buzzer, which gave them the lead they needed to defeat the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cougars had two games again this week. The first game for the week the Lady Cougars traveled to Stall High School where the Lady Cougars were defeated with a final score of SHS 54- CCHS 37. “Tuesday we came ready, the first half of the game we attacked, moved the ball and got Stall into foul trouble,” Coach Smalls said, “Second half of the game we got distracted and lost focused.” During the game the Lady Cougars were lead by Scha’Mari Stephens, who scored 15 points during the game, followed by Omari Kirkland who scored 7 points, Ashley Bowman and Jade Frazier scored 3 points, Shantasia Allen, Jadaya Hugie and Ashley Savage all scored 2 points during the game.

The second game of the week was a home game where the Lady Cougars faced Cane Bay High School. Similar to their fight against Berkeley, the Lady Cougars fought during the game but fell short with a final score of CBHS 34 to CCHS 32. “Although we fell short 32-34 Friday against Cane Bay we put up a fight to stay in the game,” Coach Smalls said, “The last 1:50secs of the game Omari Kirkland came down with two assist from Ashley Savage. Savage had two to three steals to that tied the game up for us 32-32 under 1:00.” The Cougars were lead again by Stephens, who scored 12 points during the game followed by Savage who scored 10 points and Allen who scored 7 points. The Lady Cougars are sitting 7-9 overall with a 1-5 in region matches. The Lady Cougars will return home on Tuesday January 30th where they will face Beaufort High School and will travel to Hilton Head on Friday, February 2nd.
