Lady Cougars Compete in Charleston Invitational Tournament

The Lady Cougars competed in the Charleston Invitational Tournament at Porter-Gaud High School on Wednesday December 27th-29th. Before Christmas break, the Lady Cougars played in a season game against Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School where they secured a win with a final score of 48-28. During the last game, Shantasia Allen led the Lady Cougars in points as she scored 16 points during the game followed by Jade Frazier with 7 points, Omari Kirkland with 6 points, Ashley Savage and Kari Edwards who both scored 5 points. According to Coach Smalls, “The girls have a week off to get away from basketball and regroup themselves.” This regrouping lead into the preparations for the Charleston Invitational Tournament.

The Lady Cougars kicked off the tournament against North Oconee Academy, where the Lady Cougars were ultimately defeated 28-19. Leading the Lady Cougars during that game was again Shantasia Allen who scored 10 points during the game, followed by Scha’Mari Stephens who scored 7 points, and Omari Kirkland who scored 2 points. The following night the Lady Cougars faced Bulloch Academy where they redeemed themselves and secured a victory with a final score of 30-22. During the game, the Lady Cougars were led by Omari Kirkland and Jade Frazier who both scored 10 points during the game, followed by Zy’Aire Johnson and Scha’Mari Stephens who both scored 3 points. The last game of the tournament was against Palmetto Christian and the Lady Cougars were again defeated with a final score of 41-26. Kirkland led the scoreboard again during the game, scoring 8 points during the game, followed by Ashley Bowman who scored 6 points. The Lady Cougars ended the tournament with a defeat but they will be heading back into their first Home region game against Cane Bay High School on January 9th at 6:00pm.
