Investigators reach out to community to help solve Caldwell murder

The one-year anniversary of the murder of a local woman is prompting local authorities to ask the public to dig deep into their memories and help them uncover any clues that may lead them to the woman’s killer.
The murder occurred at 426 Savage Street in Walterboro on March 28th of 2018.
The victim – Erica K. Caldwell – was 18 years old at the time of her death.
“We are approaching the one-year anniversary of the death of Erica Caldwell … no arrest has been made and we are still seeking information to bring comfort and peace to this family,” said Lt. Amye Stivender, spokeswoman for the Walterboro Police Department.
According to the original incident report filed with the Walterboro Police Department, WPD officers originally responded to an emergency call about shots being fired. A group of people was in the front lawn of the residence when the suspect pulled up the house and opened fire.
Once on scene, officers found two shooting victims laying in the front yard of the residence: one victim was laying in the front yard close to the house, while a second shooting victim was found lying in the driveway of the residence.
Both victims had been shot.
Witnesses at the house told police officers that an unknown suspect in a gray or brown hoodie sweatshirt approached the house and fired several rounds toward the victims.
Another witness at a nearby house, located on nearby Breland Street, also told authorities that he heard the sound of several gunshots coming from the area. Moments later, one of the shooting victims climbed over that man’s backyard fence and then collapsed.
Some of the shooting victims were taken to Colleton Medical Center for treatment in personal vehicles.
Additionally, a vehicle in the driveway was struck twice by bullets.
While processing the crime scene, officers were told that Caldwell had died from her injuries.
“We are asking the public to try to remember any details from this event, and we are hoping that the passing of time has calmed the fears that someone may have about coming to us with any information,” said Stivender.

“We promised the victims’ family that we would keep this investigation alive and we will,” Stivender said.

The additional shooting victims, in this case, are Michael A. Moore, 20, of Walterboro; Andrew Thomas Dunn, 19, of Walterboro; and Octavius Davis, 25, of Walterboro.
Caldwell was the one victim who died from her injuries in this shooting.
The unknown suspect will be charged with murder and aggravated assault.
