The American Insurance Center recently opened at 105 North Lucas Street. It is located at Lucas and Hampton streets in the Downtown area across from the City Parking Lot.

This business is a life and health insurance agency that offers a wide range of products. The agency’s concentration is on a niche’ market of supplemental police areas, such as policies for cancer, and other critical illnesses, accident, disability, and guarantee-issue, as well as hard to place life insurance.

Teresa Smith Marotto is the agency’s owner/agent. She has 14 years of experience in the field of life and health insurance sales. Her father, Leddy Smith, works with her, and has helped her build a portfolio of products with financially-strong companies in order to meet their marketing requirements. Leddy has 28 years of experience in financial sales and agency management.

“In the current health insurance environment, as we transition into ACA later this year, clients are being forced to choose higher deductibles to manage the cost of their health insurance,” Teresa said. “By having supplemental products, such as cancer, critical illness, accident, and disability coverage, which pays directly to the insured person in the event of a diagnosis and a claim, the insured can use this cash to eliminate deductibles and co-insurance that are required by health insurance policies, or to pay other expenses not covered by health insurance, such as loss of income, food and lodging for a loved one or friend to stay with the policy-holder while in the hospital, transportation costs if hospitalization occurs out of town, childcare, and normal living expenses that continues while the individual is hospitalized.” Teresa noted that most of these supplemental products offer to return all premiums after 20 years, while allowing policyholders to continue their policies at the initial price.

The American Insurance Center also sells Guaranteed Issue Graded Life Insurance. These policies help to provide life insurance for those who have serious health problems or who have been rejected by life insurance companies in the past.

Business hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For further information, call either Teresa or Leddy at (843) 782-4440 or Teresa at (843) 908-8098.
