Countless businesses, homes and entire towns like our very own Edisto Island were devastated with massive damage that will forever change lives. The devastating wind and rain left behind flooding and contaminated water that destroyed household contains and precious belongs. Millions of people are now trying to put the pieces back together in the wake of Irma’s aftermath. While some have return to their homes others have no home to return to leaving many people and families homeless. The road to recovery will be tough but this is a time when people can come together and lend a helping hand.  Natural disasters don’t discriminate, it doesn’t care about your race, political party, religion, gender or anything that can divides us and there are no strangers in the aftermath of a hurricane. We are all in it together when it comes to surviving the storm and recovering from the devastation. It’s an opportunity for a community to grow stronger and help their neighbors.  Do whatever you can to help those in need and others who loss everything.  As a community, we can help each other through donations and acts kindness to lift people spirits. Whatever you can donate such as money, time or basic items will make a big difference the lives of those who are in need. People need food, clothing, shoes, blankets, pampers, wipes and formula for babies and clean drinking water. Basic toiletries like soap, deodorant, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste and towels are desperately needed.  American Red Cross is also in need of excess blood supply. If you are able please visit your nearest blood bank to donate blood. For many people, this will be a very stressful and sad time. This is when we must offer kindness and support so no one goes through this alone. Things will get better and you will recover as we’ve done in the past and times before. Remember you are not alone.
