Cougars Take A Tough Loss to Eagles

The Colleton County Cougars had a tough loss against Beaufort Eagles, 38 to 46. Cougars had some mistakes early that later cost them the game. They were backed up to the goal line twice and were unfortunate to get a couple of bad snaps that resulted in a safety. Coach Peeler wanted to give credit to his players because they continued to fight back. “Hats off to a very good Beaufort team for making plays they needed to make.”

Beaufort scored a touchdown in the first quarter with a 54 yard pass and made the extra point. Graig Grant threw a 66 yard pass to Jeremiah Mosley for a touchdown, but the extra point was no good. The Cougars had a bad snap, which resulted in Beaufort getting a safety. Beaufort scored another touchdown with the extra point not being good.

Finishing up the fourth quarter Beaufort got a 7 yard touchdown run with extra point resulting in Beaufort winning 46 to 38.

Coach Peeler was very pleased with the effort and mindset of his team, but obviously disappointed in the outcome. “We’ll go back to work this week, load up and prepare for another good team in Hilton Head, and see if we can finish the deal,” Coach Peeler said.

Craig Grant set a school record for completing 6 touchdown passes in a game, beating the school record which was 5. Lance Calcutt also set a new school record with a 72 yard punt with the previous being 71. The Cougars will travel to Hilton Head this Friday, October 13.
