Cougars qualify for the third consecutive year for playoffs

The Colleton County High School Cougar Varsity Football team had a disappointing loss Friday night at home against Beaufort High School Eagles, 21 to 31. CCHS Cougar Head Varsity Football Coach Coby Peeler was disappointed in the outcome of the game but was very proud of how the guys played and how far they have come.
Coach Peeler said, “While we never will accept defeat as being ok, I am proud that they had a game that had region title implications, and that they, for the most part, played very hard and very well. I was glad they were sad and upset because that feeling means that they expect more from themselves. When I got here, I think they had lost the expectation of winning, especially in a really meaningful game. Now they expect to perform well and win, and when they don’t, it bothers them. Winning is a process, and they have grown so much and come so far. I hate it for them that we didn’t get it done tonight, but I’m proud of them for the maturity they showed and how far they have grown.”

Coach Peeler felt that this was one of the most physical games that they have played since he has been the head coach for the Cougars. The offensive and defensive line played tough all night. It was a great team effort. The Cougars had a couple of errors at critical times that let it slip away. Trakell Murray continues to impress. He went over 1000 yards for the season. Peeler believes someone told him that it had been close to ten years since the Cougars had a 1000 yard rusher.
This is the Cougars third consecutive year to have qualified for SCHSL 4-A playoffs. Peeler added, “We’re excited to compete in the playoffs and will do everything in our power to right the ship, and bring home a victory.”
The Cougars will travel to Columbia Friday night to face Airport High School at 7:30 pm for the first round of playoffs. Come out and support these young men!
