Cougar Homecoming

If you attended the Colleton County High School Cougar Football game last Friday night, there was no way to deny it was homecoming. As students and fans filled the stands, many were still dressed in their spirit week attire painting the stands with Cougar pride.

This week students at CCHS have been participating in Spirit Week which leads up to Homecoming each year. The CCHS Student Council sponsors Spirit Week and the Homecoming Court. Homecoming kicked off with recognition of the seniors and a performance by the Band of Blue before the kick off began. The halftime show started off with the CCHS Athletic Department holding a special recognition of Coach Leroy Riley and the 1997 Walterboro High School football team, who twenty years ago, brought home the State Championship Title. A plaque was given to honor the occasion as Coach Riley and players for the 1997 team all entered the field, where the crowd cheered their accomplishment. Next was the recognition of the Homecoming Court and announcement of the winners. Congratulations to the homecoming winners: Ms. Freshman Hannah Robertson, Ms. Sophomore Tierra Samuels, Ms. Junior Kasheyonna Davids, Ms. Senior Jalasia Barnett, and the 2017-2018 Homecoming Queen Ms. Macie Stone. After the winners were escorted off the field, the class representatives in Student Council from each grade took the field. During Spirit Week, these representatives have been competing in special competitions all week to determine which class had the most school spirit and would take home the CCHS Spirit Stick. The competitions included paint soccer, penny wars, banner competition, and much more. Each grade had their moment as a first-place winner, however when the scores were added there came down to a tie between the Junior and Senior class. The tie breaker was determined from the Pep Rally held, making the Senior class the winners. The Class of 2018 walked away with the spirit stick and true meaning of homecoming, Cougar Pride.
