Cottageville Library Opens its Doors

The Colleton County Memorial Library opened the doors to the new Cottageville Library located at 72 Salley Ackerman Drive. With residents who may be familiar with Cottageville, the new Library is located in the old Cottageville Elementary School addition that currently holds the Cottageville Municipal Court and Police Department. With a sign coming in the near future, just continue around the back of the Cottageville Municipal building and you will find the Cottageville Library directly in the rear. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held at 11:00am on Saturday and the doors remained opened until 5:00pm. The Cottageville Library will be open every Saturday from 10:00am to 5:00pm and patrons will be greeted by Cottageville’s two new Librarians, Rhonda Kierpiec and Robin Horton.

During the first day of being opened, the library had approximately 25 visitors aside from those who showed up at the ribbon cutting ceremony, with 20 book check outs and 6 new library cards issued. There is currently a varied selection of books for both adults and children to enjoy, with many of the same opportunities that the main library has to offer. The Cottageville Library is also apart of the SC Lends program which will allow patrons to have books from over 18 counties at their disposal. According to Kierpiec, the opening day left her felling “very encouraged.” “This was a great coordinated effort between the town and County,” Kierpiec said, “This was the Town of Cottageville and the Colleton Memorial Library working together and today was a successful representation of their combined efforts.” With some many known and unknown individuals to thank for getting the Cottageville Library running Kierpiec had many people to thank; Cottageville Mayor Tim Grimsley, Cottageville Town Council, Mrs. Betty Rhode, Friends of the Library, the Colleton Memorial Library Board, and all of the residents and volunteers who helped prepare the building.

On Saturday, May 19th the Cottageville Library will host the following events:
10:30 am- Children’s Storytime (Come hear Librarian Robin Horton read)
11:00 am- Cottageville Rocks (Come out and a paint a rock)
1:00 pm- Community Chat (Come hear lifelong Cottageville resident, Mr. Joe Bin Ackerman, born in 1922 reminisce about the town of Cottageville and all its wonderful history)
