Cottageville Back to School BASH successful

The Back to School BASH  held at the Spelltown Baseball Field on August 18 was a rousing success for the Cottageville and surrounding communities. All residents in the county know, with school back in, it can be an overwhelming task to find and purchase all of the supplies that students will need in order to get the school year off to a good start.

Ms. Lynn Jennings of Jericho United Methodist Church and her committee decided to pick the ball up and run with it in order to give the parents in the Cottageville area a big assist. Those working with Ms. Jennings included members from Nazarene Baptist Church, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and Jericho UMC. Many merchants in and around the surrounding communities donated funds or in-kind gifts, such as jump castles and a dunking booth to make the day a fun filled festival.

As a result of everyone’s hard work, over 200 people gathered at the ball field to enjoy some great food, fun and fellowship. The children had a great time running, playing and enjoying their final big bash before they would hear the school bells on Monday, August 20th.

Those gathered also heard from a Colleton County School Resource Officer (SRO), a Colleton County school bus representative and the pastor of Jericho UMC. Each person provided useful information to the students and their parents.

Additionally, the parents enjoyed the fact that they were getting some necessary relief from having to buy all of their children’s back-to-school supplies. The Community Back-to-School BASH supplied almost 150 students with back to school supplies such as paper, pencils, markers, folders, back packs, etc.

Again, all those who contributed should be thanked for making the day a success. May God bless and keep them continuously.
