City Economic Director leaving for another position

Hank Amundson is leaving Walterboro to accept a position in Pointe South.

Walterboro City Economic Director Hank Amundson is leaving his position to accept another job as the Lowcountry Council of Government’s workforce development director in Pointe South, prompting the city to initiate a search for his successor.

Amundson said last week he is excited about the new position, stating that he will be operating workforce centers for Colleton, Jasper, Hampton, and Beaufort counties. The centers help people connect with jobs and to get them trained to do those jobs.

Although Amundson will commute to and from his new position near Ridgeland, he plans to still live in and continue to enjoy Walterboro’s hometown comfort. He added he has enjoyed what the city has accomplished during his tenure here, but is looking forward to starting his new job on August 20.

Amundson said his position also includes interfacing with existing industries and businesses, a talent he honed while employed with the city. He noted that working with the city covered a much wider spectrum than economic development. It also involved connecting people together who might not have had the chance to do so on their own.
