Child injured in Green Pond shootout

A 1-year-old child sustained injuries on Saturday when four men opened fire on the vehicle that he and his mother were riding in.
The incident occurred on Saturday, March 2nd, at the intersection of ACE Basin Parkway and Charleston Highway, near the county lines of Colleton and Charleston Counties.
According to information released on Monday by the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office, the child and his mother were in a car turning toward Charleston County when the four black male suspects in a silver Mercedes pulled alongside the car and opened fire.
Shards of glass from the shattered car window injured the child.
Authorities are withholding the victims’ identities, the motive for the crime is also being withheld.
Ronjrel Farmer, 23, of Walterboro, is charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm.
Because the investigation is ongoing, local authorities are not releasing any further details. Farmer was taken into custody on Saturday, March 2nd.
The remaining three black males are still being sought. They were last seen along Green Pond Highway, near Wood Road in rural Colleton County.
“Authorities are still actively searching and following up on all leads that will lead to the arrest of these individuals,” said Shalane Lowes, spokeswoman for the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office. During the search Charleston County authorities provided helicopter assistance, Beaufort County and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources helped local authorities by providing canine assistance as well as Berkeley County and the Walterboro Police Department by providing extra manpower in the search for these individuals.
