CCHS Volleyball Competes in Tri-Match and Region Game

The Lady Cougars Varsity Volleyball team headed into last week coming off a win against Hilton Head High School, which according to Coach Willis, was one of the first matches the girls really played well together and began to have fun with one another. The Lady Cougars traveled to Beaufort High School on Thursday September 21st and competed in Tri-Match against Beaufort and Cane Bay High School. The Lady Cougars defeated Cane Bay High School with the first match CCHS 25- Cane Bay 14 and the second match CCHS 25- Cane Bay 22. Coach Willis said, “We knew going into these games that they were both region matches and knew they were both important wins for placement and seeding in the region. Cane Bay was one of the best games we have played all season. They were really trying to use some of the strategies we practiced all week so that was great to see. Jade Frazier had a phenomenal game against Cane Bay and lead the team in kills.” Although this was a victory for the Cougars, the match against Beaufort did not have the same outcome, as the Lady Cougars ultimately were defeated; first match CCHS 15- Beaufort 25 and second match CCHS 14- Beaufort 25. “We picked up a win against Cane Bay but fell short against Beaufort. We were definitely disappointed in that performance. They just couldn’t seem to settle and finish the plays but we learned what we have to do the rest of the season in order to finish in a decent spot and hopefully we will get it done,” Coach Willis said. On Wednesday September 27th, the Lady Cougars traveled to Wade Hampton High School, where they played another Tri-Match against Wade Hampton High School and Ridgeland High School. The Cougars were defeated by Wade Hampton in three sets 25-14, 19-25, and 21-25 but were able to pull out a win against Ridgeland in two sets, 25-4 and 25-15. They also played a region game at Berkeley High School on Thursday September 28th where they were ultimately defeated in the third set; 16-25, 25-22, and 19-25. According to Coach Willis, “We went down to Wade Hampton and won against Ridgeland. Obviously the season hasn’t gone exactly as planned for us but we still celebrate after a good game or win because we want the girls to know we are still in it and were still proud. We are learning and adjusting every week. We are proud of the effort our girls put in during the Berkeley game. They fought back from being down by 10 in the first set and by about 8 in the last. We came up short obviously but the effort and teamwork were definitely there. Dakari Gant led the team with kills and Ashlyn Harley had the longest serving streak of the night. It was a costly loss as far as the region is concerned but now we are focusing on finishing strong every game to see what’s left for us.” This week the Lady Cougars will travel to Lake Marion on Wednesday October 4th and Stall High School on Thursday October 5th.
