Brown Returns For A Third Year

This school year marks the return of Walterboro native Branshea Brown, who will be coaching in her third year as the head JV Lady’s basketball coach for Colleton County High School.
After graduating from Colleton County High School as a student, Brown continued in her basketball career by playing basketball for Kansas State University. There, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science with a focus on athletics.
“Yes, I went far away from home,” she said, speaking about her choice in colleges. Before returning to Colleton County, Brown also got the opportunity to join a professional development team, where she played in Spain for a season. She says she has a passion for basketball, but says her son brings her great joy. “I do not know where I would be without him,” she said.
Brown says she wants her girls team to know that endurance is a must. “I want my girls to know how to use the game of basketball in their everyday lives. Winning will not always be easy. You have to push through and figure out ways to conquer the opponent,” she said.
“As humans our opponent is life and we have the choice to conquer and be great at it or give up and settle.”
Coach Brown says she is always “rebuilding her JV team,” as she teaches her local team new skills. “I introduce new things and see the girls exceed my expectations,” she said.
