‘Big Blue’ adds two new leaders

Bailey Raez

The Band of Blue has added two new leaders to its team.
Clay Blackwood and Bailey Raez are the two new directors and instructors for the Colleton County High School band. Blackwood is the band’s newest assistant director of bands and is also the director of percussion studies.
Blackwood comes from Spartanburg and is a 2019 graduate of the North Greenville University. He also marched in the James F. Byrnes High School Band.
Raez is the Band of Blue’s new Color Guard instructor. She is a 2018 Colleton County High School graduate and a current student at the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie campus. She was a featured performer in the Band of Blue’s Winter Ensembles and has six years of dance and guard experience, according to Tom Finigan, director of the Colleton County High School’s Band of Blue.
The Band of Blue is entering their current 2019-2020 marching season as a top-ranked group in South Carolina, with more than a dozen awards and merits earned from last year’s competitions. The band also gained national attention earlier this year, when the Band of Blue marched in a national parade and then performed live on national television. Because of these accomplishments and honors, Finigan and his band were recognized recently by Walterboro City Council.
