Have You Filled the Boot?

Photos provided.

Have you ever came to a stop light at an intersection or visited a local store and noticed that there are men and women holding a boot, asking for donations? Have you ever wondered who they are or why they were collecting donations? Did you even ask?
These dedicated men and women are a part of The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) and they are showing an unwavering commitment to collect donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through a campaign called Fill The Boot. This campaign has been an IAFF tradition since 1954. “With MDA, the IAFF’s support is not going to come to an end until the need for MDA doesn’t exist,” said Harold A. Schaitberger, IAFF General President.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is an organization, founded in 1950, that battles muscular dystrophy and other muscle diseases by funding research, educating the public and providing medical and community services to families who are suffering from muscular diseases.
Thousands of firefighters hit the streets or storefronts asking pedestrians, motorists, customers and other passersby to make a donation to MDA. Fill the Boot donations benefit MDA’s mission across America by helping families who are suffering from muscular diseases and providing the funds to help find research breakthroughs across all muscle diseases. In 2015, more than 100,000 firefighters participated in Fill the Boot events across the country and raised nearly $26 million dollars in donations.
So next time you see these committed individuals, holding a boot and simply asking you to spare some change, don’t hesitate to reach into your pocket or purse. Whether it be a penny or a dollar, it’s for a great cause. Have you filled the boot? I know I have. For more information or to make a donation please visit https://filltheboot.donordrive.com/
